The Interest on domestic deposits is compounded in banks at quarterly intervals. Therefore, if depositor wants the interest payable at quarterly intervals, the interest is paid without any discounting. However, if a depositor wants interest payment at monthly intervals, The interest is paid at discounted rate.
The Interest on FCNR ( Foreign Currency Non-Resident ) deposits is compounded at half-yearly intervals. Therefore, if depositor wants the interest payable at half-yearly intervals, the interest is paid without any discounting. However, if a depositor wants interest payment at monthly or quarterly intervals, The interest is paid at discounted rate.
Annuity is monthly / quarterly amount ( like pension ) payable by banks and other institutions for investment of a lump sum amount of deposit for a fixed period of time. The annuity is payment of principal and interest in equal instalment over the term of investment. As the principal and interest are being paid periodically, the balance available after the end of period for which the amount was invested becomes Nil. The scheme is suitable for retired persons, who have lump sum amount to invest and need periodical payments for meeting their day to day expenses.
